Conception: Yael’s Story

Client: The New York Times
Production Company: Passion Pictures
Role: Director, Designer, and Animator
2018

Conception is a New York Times series of six animated films about motherhood. Each episode is a different first-person story capturing love, regret, doubt, and resilience. Rejecting a single narrative, the series gives voice to the full complexity of maternal experience.

I directed, storyboarded, designed, and animated my episode, with animation assistance from Zack Williams and Barry Bruner. In "When Having a Child Doesn't Make You Happy," Yael reflects on her mother's battle with postpartum depression and her own fears as a new mother.
